Air Force Recruitment Center about the discovery and asks if they can forward the information about the chip to the right authorities. While it may not have been as popular as the first two movies starring Macaulay Culkin, the third ‘Home Alone’ has all the elements of a great holiday flick, including a witty 8-year-old and a beautiful family home where he lays traps for the bad guys. And just in case you were wondering, here’s where you can find that home in real life.

Gone are the days of green and red wallpaper and red carpeting on the stairs in the foyer – now replaced with modern grey paint and blue & white carpeting. The kitchen has also undergone some extensive work, now featuring elegant white shaker cabinets, green tile backsplash, and a small breakfast bar. The tacky wallpaper in the master suite has been replaced with a chic grey & white striped print. Additionally, the once hardwood floors are now decked out in white carpeting. The dining room, which featured red walls in the film, is now adorned in a warm cream color painted with vines and pear trees. Quite the improvement overall…unless you’re a diehard lover of 90s interior design.

And since we’ve already covered the house in the first Home Alone movie, we thought I’d be the perfect time to do some scouting and find the one in the third movie too, especially since it’s no less beautiful. Clare Carey as Kate McCallister, Kevin, Buzz, and Megan's mother. French Stewart as Marv Murchins, Vera's husband and an old nemesis of Kevin. Despite his name, the character's physical appearance and attire more closely resemble that of his former partner Harry Lyme . After the three initially refuse, Kevin accepts the offer after being bullied by Buzz and revels in the mansion's luxuries.
They’d met the film’s location manager when they lived in Evanston. At first, the location manager expressed interest in using their Winnetka home for the Hughes film Uncle Buck, but that didn’t work out. Over a year passed before the Abendshiens were asked to use the house for Home Alone. “We would have not believed back then that there would be sightseers coming to look at that house for years afterward,”John Abendshien told Vanity Fair in 2020.

“It was a big deal having the movie filmed here, and it’s still a big deal. Any time I’m walking by that house, I see someone out in front, taking pictures.” As you can imagine, traffic picks up during the Christmas season when the movie takes place. While a large portion of the movie was filmed on a soundstage, shots of the home’s interior can still be found in the film. The scenes of the foyer’s grand staircase and the living room were the real-life Home Alone house. There were, however, some tiny changes made to facilitate some scenes in the film. For example, new wallpaper was added to make the house more festive.
The royal family and Natalie arrive, and the offenders' plot to kidnap the prince is revealed to Natalie's shock. Mr. Prescott, per Kevin's advice, resigns from his position as her butler. Realizing that their relationship was built on infatuation rather than love and was affecting his responsibilities as a husband and father, Peter breaks up with Natalie, and reconciles with Kate and their children. Grateful to Kevin for his foiling of the kidnapping plot, the royals spend Christmas with the newly-reunited McCallisters, devastating Natalie as Kevin and Prescott give the commands for music to play and snow to fall.
The House in the Notebook — Allie’s Dream or a Real Home?
Macaulay Culkin refused to do this film, simply because he'd grown tired of the role, and felt that there was nothing else he could've done with it. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3 out of 4 stars and said that he found it to be "fresh, very funny, and better than the first two." Fox Family Films was the division of 20th Century Fox responsible for the production on the film. Later, the Pruitts, Hess, and the authorities hold a celebration for Alex as the Pruitt house is being repaired, with Jack returning home from a business trip. Beaupre's group are shown to have contracted Alex's chickenpox during their mugshots.

Whereas 2 went too dark and violent, 3 goes too cartoonish and slapstick. Where the first film thought small, with just a pair of common burglars, 3 goes big, with a team of international terrorists. Still, the film's beginning shows some cleverness in setting up a new, original home alone situation, but it quickly devolves into garbage. The main problem with Home Alone 3 is that it's so pacified that it doesn't have the darkness or edginess needed to believe that these are real characters, or that this situation is dangerous. Four high-tech industrial spies are trying to smuggle out a top secret military microchip to North Korea.
Audience Reviews for Home Alone 3
The mob boss formulates a mission to retrieve US$10 million missile cloaking computer chip, which would be used in North Korea. He hires a number of participants, one of them being internationally wanted criminal Petr Beaupre. Stupid, poorly acted, and poorly written, Home Alone 3 has got to be the worst installment in the series. It had it's funny moments here and there, so that's why I give it 1 1/2 stars. It makes me feel said how John Hughes would write a movie like this one.

Oh, and the back door down the set of stairs outside – that actually wasn’t real. A backhoe was brought in to dig up that part of the property so that a fake door and steps could be added in. Kevin’s treehouse was also specifically built for the film and ended up being taken down after filming wrapped. Alex Pruitt, an 8-year-old boy living in Chicago, must fend off international spies who seek a top-secret computer chip in his toy car. With four thieves looking to retrieve the toy car/computer chip gifted to Alex by his unknowing neighbor, Mrs. Hess, the movie’s plot tackles a far more dangerous situation that the first two, despite the light way in which it is presented. That’s not because of the plot, cast, or setting, but rather the result of the ultra-high expectations created by the first two Home Alone movies, and the fondness audiences had for Macaulay Culkin .
“It was far too smallto get the crew in the door," Columbus once explained. Instead, many of the interiors of Kevin’s home were shot at New Trier Township High School, an abandoned school in town. The filmmakers built a two-story set inside the gym. For movie fans, the brick suburban residence featured in the 1990 movie Home Alone is almost as familiar as Macaulay Culkin's adorable mug from the beloved holiday flick. The entire production of Home Alone was shot in the Chicago area! Even the parts that were supposed to be set in the Paris Orly Airport were actually filmed at O’Hare International Airport. The interior of the plane was a set built on a basketball court at the local high school. In fact, the scene where Kevin McCallister is trekking through the flooded basement is actually the school’s swimming pool.

Screen grab from Home Alone 3, featuring a young Scarlett Johansson as the older sister. Just in case you were wondering, the house where Alex Pruitt’s neighbor — Mrs. Hess — supposedly lived is actually located across the street at 3025 Normandy Place. And while the first two Home Alone movies starring Macaulay Culkin are the clear fan favorites, the third one was deemed the least successful in the series — by far — and failed to make a lasting impression.
